WESTLAND (WWJ) – A cash reward is being offered as the search continues for a pair of young men wanted for a carjacking at a Westland gas station back in May.
Westland police on Thursday released photos of the suspects in a carjacking at the BP station on Wayne near Warren around 1:15 a.m.
Officials say the victim was “conducting business” at the gas station and when he returned to his car he was approached by one of the suspects, who threatened him with a gun and demanded his belongings and car.
The victim cooperated and the two suspects left the scene with the victim’s car.
As a westland police officer was responding to the call, he spotted the stolen car nearby and tried to pull it over, but the driver sped away onto I-96.
Westland police released video of the chase, which was terminated after the suspect shut off the car’s lights and the officer lost sight a short time later in the area of I-96 and Evergreen.
The video shows the suspect and officer getting on and off I-96 multiple times.
The stolen car was found abandoned a short time later in the same area by the Detroit Police Department.

The Westland Police Department is attempting to identify two suspects seen on video shortly before committing a carjacking on Wednesday, May 31st at approximately 1:15 a.m. The victim was conducting business at the BP Gas Station located at 7139 N. Wayne. Upon returning to his vehicle that was parked in the lot, he was approached by one of the pictured suspects who threatened the victim with a handgun and demanded the victim’s belongings and vehicle. The victim cooperated and the two suspects left the scene with the victim’s vehicle. Upon responding to the call, a Westland Police Officer observed the vehicle in the area that the incident occurred and attempted to initiate a traffic stop. The vehicle failed to stop and fled from the patrol officer. The vehicle fled onto I-96, and officers lost sight of the vehicle in the area of I-96 and Evergreen. The vehicle was located unoccupied a short time later in the same area by the Detroit Police Department.Suspect 1: Heavier set black male, late teens/early 20’s, wearing all black, and black pants with an Adidas logo.Suspect 2: Slimmer black male, late teens/early 20’s, wearing all black and an Adidas hooded sweatshirt with a white logo.
